witness as kasina

Postby jwhooper » Tue May 14, 2013 4:49 am

I was reading something writting by Nick at:
http://thehamiltonproject.blogspot.com.au/2011/01/yogi-toolbox-riding-jhanic-arc-via.html#!/2011/01/yogi-toolbox-riding-jhanic-arc-via.html

It is about using the Witness as a kasina object. I decided to try this while doing a walking meditation. He likened the Witness to the 6th jhana, infinite consciousness, so I used my panoramic awareness of all the space around me as my kasina object. This must not be right, because what I got was a strobing effect of awareness being aware of itself. All of the movements of walking seemed disconnected and somewhat jarring. Awareness and the Witness must not be the same thing. Can anyone explain the difference?
